Trying to follow the action in Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is like trying to follow tennis when you’re hungover.
As for Metal Gear, I watched a video retrospective twice, read the wikipedia article, played through all of MGS4 and parts of MGS1 and still I’m not sure I have a real grasp on the plot of that series.

I think Capcom was thinking “this MUGEN thing is going to be huge. We need to beat them at their own game.” It certainly explains why there are 40 Akumas in MvC2.

To be fair, MGS is designed to be played in order – MGS4 can’t really make sense unless you’ve completed MGS 1-3.
