I played the demo for Dark Void twice and the thing that bugged me the most was the cumbersome and non-intuitive air combat controls. It gives you a button to affix your camera on the closest baddie, but it doesn’t align so you’re facing said baddie. This amounts to a button that’s practically useless. I can understand if your playing a airplane dogfighting game that you wouldn’t want to give a lock-on button, but with jetpack and ufo combat it’s much faster and requires more agility and the inclusion of a real lock-on button would make the game much more enjoyable.
The rest of the demo was kinda meh, so it seems like it might be worth a rental.

Games for years have problems making decent controls for underwater and flying movement. Sometimes I wonder if our thumbs were truly meant to fly…
Heheh. A thumb can dream…
I think some games have had decent flying controls, like City of Heroes, Iron Man or Superman Returns.
And obviously the best swimming controls have to go to Mario 64.
