Having just recently re-watched the Super Mario Brothers Movie I can safely say it is as horrible as you remember it.
Nintendo has essentially disowned the movie now, which is for the best.

I still find it funny how PS3 fanboys come to the Galaxy forums and start complaining that a Nintendo game can’t be good and that Nintendo paid off every single reviewer on the internet.

Pffft, the Super Mario Bros movie was a great B-movie! It was super cheesy, full of randomness and best of all played up the fact that Bo-bombs are not to be crossed!
